New to the Library: ‘The Playful Brain’ by Sergio and Vivien Pellis

Sergio and and Vivien Pellis, authors of The Playful Brain, regard play as endlessly fascinating, not least because it is a behaviour found in both animals and humans. When Sergio Pellis gave a seminar on what had been learnt about play from studies done on laboratory rats, he found that his audience of educators and developmental psychologists, amongst others,  expressed great interest in the implications of the research  for the study of play in humans and their psychological development. This provided the impetus for writing the book which is designed to appeal both to professionals, who deal with issues related to human development, and also the lay reader.
